New Mercedes-Benz CLA Compact Four-Door Coupe Caught Undisguised During Photo Shoot!

For the past year or so, spy photographers have been following Mercedes-Benz engineers all over the world to capture a glimpse of the brand's upcoming CLA premium compact sedan, or as the Germans are likely to describe the car in their press material, a four-door coupe.

Naturally, the brand with the shining star has always been careful to keep the prototype and pre-production models of the CLA well hidden under foil wraps and plenty of plastic cladding.

However, with the official presentation of the CLA coming closer every day, at some point, Mercedes-Benz had to remove the camo to complete the necessary photo and video shoots that always take place in remote locations. Little did they know that when they did, someone would be out there to capture the production car in its…birthday suit.

That someone was Bernhard Kohlmeier who was vacationing with his family in Iceland at the Northern Light Inn situated within walking distance of the famed Blue Lagoon (more on Bernhard's experience and first thoughts on the car's looks after the jump).

Scoop: Mercedes-Benz CLA Compact Sports Saloon Filmed with Less Camouflage

One of the most eagerly anticipated new Mercedes-Benz models is the CLA, which is the toned down, production version of the Concept Style Coupé (CSC) presented to the world this past spring.

In the months following the debut of the concept, we saw several prototype models including the performance orientated CLA 45 AMG variant, but all of them were heavily disguised.

Scoop: New Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG E-Cell Sheds its Camo and Gets Caught By Our Lens

When Mercedes-Benz displayed the SLS AMG E-Cell concept at last year’s Detroit Motor Show, company boss Dr. Dieter Zetsche boldly stated that it is “the most technically advanced sports car in the 125-year history of the automobile” and confirmed that a production version was on its way.

This year, the three-pointed star announced that the SLS AMG E-Cell would hit the market in 2013. While 2012 still has some way to go (assuming the Mayas were wrong and the world doesn’t end…), the production version has been caught completely undisguised.

U Spy: What's Mercedes-Benz Doing with an A-Class Prototype in Prague?

Within the next couple of weeks - if not days, Mercedes-Benz will begin European deliveries of the spanking-new A-Class compact hatchback.

The premium model has already racked up more than 40,000 orders in Europe alone and as a result, Mercedes-Benz turned to Valmet Automotive, which it hired to build an additional 100,000 units or so from 2013 through 2016 to cover the demand.

Given that the regular A-Class has already been presented, we were somewhat surprised to see that CarScoop reader Radek V. spotted a heavily camouflaged prototype of the VW Golf-sized model earlier today on the picturesque streets of the Czech Republic's capital city of Prague.

Scoop: New 2014 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Makes a Cameo Appearance in Front of the Camera

Spies have captured the next generation of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedan on film while engineers were testing a heavily camouflaged prototype in Spain.

With a possible world premiere at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, the new C-Class sedan, internally called the W205, won't be arriving in European dealerships before spring of 2014 with North American deliveries likely to commence in the fall of the same year.

Spy Shots: Next Generation 2014 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Sedan

Here comes the new version of one of Benz's best-selling models, the C-Class saloon, a prototype of which was caught testing by our spy photographers at Germany's Nürburgring.

It's hard to tell what the final production model will look like on the outside from these shots as Mercedes-Benz's engineers have yet to toss away the heavy camouflage, but the next S-Class, which will arrive earlier than the C-Class, will give us an idea of the styling direction.

Spied: New Mercedes-Benz CLA 45 AMG with 330hp Turbo Engine Caught for the First Time

Not too long ago, we reported on the upcoming Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG hot hatchback. Now, we have the first photos of its more spacious and larger sedan sibling, the stylish CLA 45 AMG.

Even though the Stuttgart automaker's engineers went crazy with the black camo, some visual identifiers separate the AMG model from the regular CLA variants including, the massive brake discs behind the larger five-spoke alloys and the reprofiled side sills.

Spied: 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Limo in Performance AMG Specification

The closest you'll get to a performance orientated model in the upcoming Mercedes-Benz S-Class sedan range (codenamed W222) is no doubt the two AMG-branded and –developed models to be sold under the S63 and S65 AMG monikers.

There is no question that the prototype S-Class spied by our scoop photographers while filing up at a gas station in Germany is one of the two AMG models, and thanks to the square tail pipes, we can tell you that this is most likely the S63 variant as the S65 features twin oval-shaped exhausts on either side of the bumper.

According to sources, both iterations are expected to keep the same powerplants as the current models, though AMG engineers may make some subtle tweaks to improve their fuel efficiency.

As such, the S63 AMG will feature a 5.5-liter twin-turbocharged V8, which in its current form delivers 530hp (537PS) at 5,500 rpm and 590 lb-ft (800Nm) from 2,000 to 4,500 rpm in standard trim, and 556bhp (564PS) and 664 lb-ft (900Nm) with the optional performance package.

U Spy: Can You Name the Mercedes-Benz Prototype in these Pictures?

One of our longtime readers, Vladimir P., was traveling on the roads of Munich in Germany this past weekend when he came across a prototype of a Mercedes-Benz model partially covered in black tape, strategically positioned to keep the styling details out of sight.

What we want from you is to tell us which upcoming Mercedes-Benz four-door sedan model do you think is hiding behind the plastic wraps of this prototype.

Spied: Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Goes to the Dark Side with Black Series Edition

If these scoop pictures remind you of something, it is because the white-bodied prototype SLS AMG model you see here is almost identical to the black-colored tester we showed you last month and which we then wrongly believed to be a mule for the upcoming SLC AMG.

As it turns out, both the white and black testers are prototypes for the SLS AMG 'Gullwing' Black Series Edition that builds upon the regular model adding a whole lot of performance upgrades.

Spy Shots: 2013 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe Also Being Readied for a Nip & Tuck

Our spy shooters have spotted the facelifted Mercedes-Benz E-Class coupe on test in Germany, just a couple of months after we first viewed a prototype of the refreshed E-Class Estate.

As it turns out, the entire E-Class family that includes the four-door sedan, station wagon and the coupe models will drop the quad headlights and obtain a single-unit headlamp on each side, likely incorporating the LED daytime running lights (instead of being mounted on the bumper).

Scoop: 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Filmed in Spain by a Bicyclist

For the second time this year after a bicyclist inadvertently stumbled upon an undisguised A-Class hatchback that had not yet been revealed, an upcoming Mercedes-Benz model has been caught on film by a biker named Joan Marc.

In this case, it's the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class saloon, which was nabbed on camera while entering a guarded residential area in Berlin Spain.

U Spy: 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Continues Testing in Spain

While vacationing in Spain, Carscoop reader Juan J. from Colombia, stumbled upon this camouflaged prototype model.

"Last week I was travelling from Barcelona to Valencia (Spain) and a white car covered up with black camo was cruising on the highway, which I'm pretty sure is the new S-Class," Juan tells us.

And he's right; this is the next generation of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class limousine with the standard wheelbase.

"I noticed two big "things" that might be relevant," Juan added. "All the dashboard was digital - I mean, speedometer, tachometer, and the main center screen, and also, the engine sounded like turbo."

The next model to join Mercedes-Benz's expanded family of compact cars after the new five-door A-Class and the minivan-like B-Class will be the production version of the impressive looking Concept Style Coupé (CSC) sports sedan seen earlier this year that we will come to know as the CLA.

Scoop: 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class AMG Prototype Hits the Test Track

Our spies have nabbed what they believe to be a prototype for one of the two upcoming AMG versions of the next Mercedes-Benz S-Class, codenamed W222.

While this test model retains the exhaust pipes of the regular model, it does sport a lowered chassis along with some other telling details such as the side skirts, larger alloy wheels shod in low profile tires, bigger brakes, a covered rear diffuser and a modified front bumper with more prominent air inlets.

SCOOP: First Photos of Mercedes-Benz SLC AMG Prototype, will Rival the 911 and F-Type

What we have here are our very first spy shots of a test mule for the upcoming Mercedes-Benz SLC AMG, which will be a lighter, smaller and more affordable sports car proposal than the flagship SLS AMG GT.

The SLC AMG, the name of which was recently confirmed by Mercedes-Benz design boss Gorden Wagener, will compete more directly against the Porsche 911 and the future Jaguar F-Type.

The German firm's new sports car model will be based on a shortened version of the larger SLS AMG GT's platform. However, unlike the prototype seen in these pictures that uses body panels from the SLS GT for testing purposes, the production SLC will get its own bespoke design.

Mercedes-Benz Reportedly Confirms A45 AMG Details, gets 330HP 2.0-Liter Turbo and AWD

While we have yet to see the hottest version of the new A-Class hatchback in production guise, Mercedes-Benz has reportedly confirmed to Autocar magazine the basic details of the upcoming A45 AMG, which was previously thought to be named A25 AMG.

The A45 AMG will be the first series production AMG model with a transversely mounted engine.

The report confirms that power will come from a heavily modified version of the A250's 208hp 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine tuned to deliver 330hp (335PS) and "maximum torque significantly above 295lb ft (400Nm)".
